Shining a light on people and place

Our company name takes inspiration from the role of lanterns in providing a navigational aid to help guide proponents through legislative requirements, and as a spotlight that can help showcase heritage significance. We are passionate about cultural heritage and the importance it has within today’s society.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is one of the most important values at Lantern Heritage. Clear, honest and respectful communication is central to how we operate. This is integral to our role as heritage consultants where we often facilitate effective communication between stakeholders, including government regulators, proponents/clients and the public. We pride ourselves on keeping communication channels open and recognise the importance of listening to and understanding differing perspectives.

BEST PRACTICE

Lantern Heritage strives to be a leading light for best practice within the cultural heritage sector. Our staff are encouraged and supported to undertake professional development to keep abreast of current standards and emerging technologies. As a company we are ethically committed to implementing best practice in all aspects of our work to enhance the quality, value and delivery of our services.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Cultural heritage significance is inextricably linked to the communities who value it. Without a community to engage with and relate to an artefact, item, place or landscape, there is limited heritage value. As such, we consider community engagement integral to our profession. In addition to undertaking community consultation as part of the heritage assessment process, we are passionate about finding opportunities for community outreach and education. Examples of this include:

  • Training and mentoring of Aboriginal representatives in archaeological methods and practice
  • Work experience and intern opportunities for high school and undergraduate students
  • Discounted rates and/or pro bono work for community groups
  • Collaboration with communities in promotion and investigation of their heritage

SUSTAINABILITY

The process of looking into the past through archaeology, together with working in a sector focussed on assessing heritage impacts, brings home the reality of our planet’s finite resources and human influences on climate. We are committed to adopting strategies to reduce our environmental footprint and working as ambassadors for heritage conservation and ecologically sustainable development.
